What Makes a Grad School Great?

A combo of many things, really. People, programs and professionalism are the main ingredients.

That’s why every year CAGS recognizes one of our member institutions for an outstanding contribution to graduate education.

Nominations are now open for the annual CAGS/ETS award. Entries will be accepted until April 30, 2014. Guidelines for the nomination process can be found here.

Expectations and pressures on a graduate program are intense in these days of global competition. Institutions are looking to produce graduates with technological expertise, analytical skills and a commitment to high standards. The award will be presented to a CAGS institution that has created or enhanced programs that improve the student experience and outcomes of their graduate education.

Previous winners include:

Memorial University for its initiative that supports e-defence of theses, enabling top-notch examiners from around the world to participate without the time and expense of travelling.

McGill University’s SKILLSETS progam, a suite of workshops designed for graduate and postdoctoral students to complement their research training and provide them with general, transitional and professional skill development opportunities.
